It is with excitement, that The Currajong School warmly welcomes our two new leaders. Rhett Watts has commenced as our new Principal, and joining Rhett is Julian Pharaoh, who has been appointed as the Assistant Principal.
Rhett has significant experience in educational leadership, with a strong knowledge of school governance, operations, policies and procedures. He has spent the last 16 years working in the Specialist School sector, this along with his qualifications in Education and Behavioural Studies provide an in depth understanding of the practical and evidence-based research around teaching, learning and supporting emotional, social and behavioural wellbeing.
Rhett has a nurturing and collaborative style of leadership, that continually focuses on what is best for the students and what each student needs to achieve their best emotionally, physically and academically. He has a passion for leading high-quality inclusive education, where students and staff are continually learning, adapting, forward thinking and together, support one other to succeed in everything they do. Respect, resilience, responsibility, consultation and teamwork are key values Rhett believes make an effective school and this is key to his leadership of building strong relationships and social capital with students, families, staff and the broader school community.
Julian has many years of experience in the special school sector both as a teacher, leader, and Assistant Principal. His qualifications and experience in special education have provided him with knowledge and strategies to support Rhett as the principal and our school community in areas of improvement, and also supporting the individual needs of our students and their families. Julian has been the Assistant Principal at Marnebek School and has been responsible for leading student wellbeing and a positive climate for learning. He has a detailed understanding of positive behaviour supports, inclusivity and building student voice and agency across the school to engage students.
Julian is passionate about making a difference in students’ lives, to create and provide them with a supportive learning environment where they can learn and grow to become as independent as possible. Julian is a proactive leader, committed and has a positive approach towards helping students learn in and outside of the classroom.
